Sully the Golden Retriever's Leash Pulling Before & After

Frustrating walks subconsciously (or consciously) stop us from taking more walks in the future.

Let's be real, if you enjoyed a relaxing stroll with your dog, you'd be WAY more likely to take more walks together!

So let's tune up our walking skills!

When your leash goes tight/taught/tense...

👉STOP MOVING (or turn around & walk the opposite way)

This tension (especially when it's prolonged) actually teaches our dogs to pull more & harder - even at the detriment of their comfort.

Stopping or changing directions when the leash gets tense creates slack on the leash & teaches our dogs that a slack (loose) leash means we move together.

Pair this with rewarding good decisions (staying near your side, changing directions with you, & giving you eye contact) & boom! You've got a dog who's starting to see the bigger picture of what you'd like walks to be.

You may also consider changing walking equipment (short term or long term) to create a new sensation for your dog to pay attention to.
